Artwork Copying & File Preparation

Artwork Copying Service

Digital files from artwork can then be used to create Giclée Fine Art prints or files for web use. Ideally you will need to leave any artwork with us for approximately 4 days. This allows us create the best quality files which the greatest match for colour and density to your original . Within the constraints of paper & ink limitations, we will create files suitable for printing at original size.

Each painting is assessed prior to photographing. We use the best possible lighting setup to eliminate any glare and shadows due to “hot spots” or highly textured areas. Obviously there are often times when having some small shadows are desirable. Some shadows will give the feeling of surface relief on the final print. It’s always done on an individual basis. Not a ‘one size fits all’ scenario.

Please be aware that even though we will create the best match we can. It is impossible to obtain a 100% accurate match. There will always be some slight trade off with one colour or another in a painting.

Points To Bear In Mind

  1. Is the painting varnished – If heavily varnished with a high glossy coating, the end result will not be as good as if the same painting were unvarnished. If you have not finished the painting and intend applying a GLOSS varnish let us copy it before you varnish. If you are using a matte varnish, the copy should be good even after varnishing.
  2. Can we keep the original for 4 days – If YES, then all is good. If NO, we can still create the digital files and you would be able to collect the original the following day. We will not guarantee that the final files/prints will be a close match to your original. If you opt to not leave the original, any reprinting due to you not liking the end result will be chargeable.
  3. What size prints do you want? – Files that we create will usually be capable of printing original size. Don’t assume that you MUST have the original size. What ever size you wish(within reason) can be printed. Unless you don’t mind the image being cropped in some way, you will have to have prints made in the same proportions as the original. For example, if your original is 20″ x 16″ you could have prints made at 20″ x 16″, 15″ x 12″, 10″ x 8″ or 7.5″ x 6″ .  These are all the same proportions as the original. We will advise you at point of order.
  4. Do you prints have mounts? – If they have a bevel edge mount, it is desirable to remove it before bringing it in for copying. If it is impossible to remove a mount we can still copy the painting but  you will lose about 0.25″ on each side as we are unable to copy up to the mount.
